Ok y’all….I know…how completely cliché right? Writing down next years goals and promises along with the rest of the free world where half the population promises the same things each year with little change over 365 days. Cliché and depressing…no?
A sense of guilt sets in every December as we realize our intentions of change turn into broken promises and personal let downs.
But here is my view on Resolutions….much like wishes on a star, they needn’t always be shared. I love the idea of sitting down and thinking about the closing of one year and the beginning of the next. There are so many things we want to do, do more of, or stop doing. The problem with resolutions, I feel, is that many are made for others benefits and not for your own. Many resolutions are made completely out of “balance” and THAT is why they become hard to live up to OR resolve.
So for this next year….instead of sharing all my “resolutions”, I would like to share my RESOLUTION WORD of 2013: BALANCE!
Between my personal life and my professional full-time career as an International Wedding and Portrait Photographer, I have a lot to juggle. Finding a good balance between both is a yearly challenge that only grows as my family and business responsibilities do. As I approach my 5 year in business and my 4 year as a mother and wife, establishing balance now as opposed to later, is imperative.
The tasks I juggle everyday, such as shooting, editing, blogging, invoicing, mentoring, changing diapers, making snacks, carpool, dinner, cleaning, then back to editing, marketing, and paper work….they become very overwhelming and often send me into full SHUTDOWN mode at the end of the day. I have very little time left for ‘me’ time. The reason I am so out of “balance” is that I am not as ORGANIZED as I need to be. It took me this entire past year to realize that and that balance and organization go hand in hand.
Anyway, as this new year begins, I’m going to focus on things I can do to achieve and maintain a healthy balance in my life.
I am going to MAKE time for “me”. I am going to spend MORE QUALITY time with my loved ones and friends. I am going to set up business hours. I am going to BLOG every week, because believe it or not, a blogging schedule actually helps you stay organized. I am going to hire my first ever assistant (eekkk). I am hiring my first ever accountant…no more math for me…THANK GOD! I am going to outsource where I feel comfortable and necessary to make more time for the parts of this business I am truly passionate about. Such as; people to people interaction, teaching others, and SHOOTING MORE!
Growth and positive change are on the way. With a lot of faith. A lot of help and organization. And a lot of balance…Me, myself and I /(KNP) have no where to go but up.
Now what about you… whats your 2013 ‘word’?
