Today is Martin Luther King day…a day far bigger than a day off or work and school. Today we honor and pay respect to a man that was not afraid to DREAM OUT LOUD. A man that stood up for everything many weren’t brave enough to. He gave a voice to the unspoken desires and hopes of so many that came before him. A man…who left behind a a mark on this nation and a mark on so many peoples hearts.

Every MLK day I re-read his epic speech that he gave on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial on August 28 in the year of 1963.

Every year I am brought to tears by his passion, his courage, and his love for something so much greater than himself.

In any walk of life, anyone has the freedom to dream…and now we have the permission to live those dreams and shout them OUT LOUD for all to hear. Not everyone will support our dreams. Not everyone will like us, encourage us, or believe in us. AND THATS OK!

In this industry, professional photography, one of the best elements is our FREEDOM to be 100% what we want to be. There is a voice…there is room for all of our art. We can dream as often and as big as we would like. People can judge us, try to drag us down, and try to silence our voices….BUT ONLY IF WE LET THEM WILL THEY SUCCEED.

Hope and Change—these are the dreams of the PRESIDENT of the US, Barack Obama, who also is celebrating his SECOND Inauguration today.

These are big dreams. Dreams that may not be believed, supported or respected by others…but his dream is bigger than himself. His dream is being lived out loud…and today…when he makes his infamous mark on history and gives his Inauguration speech, I will be in the crowd of thousands….making room for my voice, and standing up for my dreams.

“I have a dream that I will be the best photographer I can be. That I will grow to be a teacher for many. A role model for many. And that I will be successful enough to make not only my family proud…but myself proud.”

Thank you MLK….Good Luck President Obama with your second term…and GOD BLESS THE USA AND OUR MANY FREEDOMS WE HAVE TO LIVE OUR OWNNNN DREAMS!
