Ariel. That was what I thought when I first saw her. Don’t tell anyone…but I secretly pretend I am Ariel on most days…and if I could rock red hair like her or my girl Rhema…I would! : )
I met Rhema on my way to United….I know…you must think its all I ever talk about…but once you go…thats all you will be chatting about for months as well. But luckily for you…were arent here to talk about United…we are here to talk about THIS AMAZING photog/girl pal of mine: Rhema Faith Photography.
Her work, though it speaks for herself, must be bragged about…even if its only for a few short moments here on my blog. She has this INSANE knack for capturing the most sincere and candid of moments in what looks like a very artistic posed way. For most photographers…we call this the mecca. THE IDEAL way of shooting. Effortless, yet perfect! Rhema has one of those “up for anything…friends with everyone….love everyone and everything” kind of personalities. Luckily for me…those are the exact people I strive to befriend in life. We became close at United and even within 48 hours of hanging out with her, I felt like I was welcome….at home, if you will.
If she can make a fellow photog feel that way…I can only imagine how she makes her clients feel. You simply must follow her and her work. She will certainly be the one responsible for lighting up a gloomy day you may be having! Plus…there is always room for new friends, right?!!?
So without further ado….my new and HIGHLY talented friend, Rhema Faith….
The Interview:
1.Tell us something about your business and how long you have been a professional photographer?
I have been a professional photographer for 3 1/2 years and have loved every minute of it! I started out taking pictures for some of my friends who were Seniors and evolved into Family Portraits and eventually decided to take on Weddings (that was entirely intimidating!)
2. What equipment do you use? Whats your fave lens?
I own two Canon 5D mark III’s, the lenses I own are 50mm 1.2 (Which is my FAVE and on my camera 90% of the time!!) and the 28, 85 and the 135!
3. Where are you located?
I am in Fort Collins, Colorado but absolutely love the places photography has taken me!! adventuring to new places is something I LOVE!
4. What is your approach to photography?
I want to make my clients feel comfortable and themselves! I like to pose naturally and with movement, I want them to fall into how they feel comfortable and make adjustments from there. I want my clients to walk away from a shoot saying they had FUN with me and with each other!! Its all about the experience I offer them! Having your picture taken makes you feel special and when a couple gets to gaze into each others eyes and feel loved in each others arms, its just that much better!!
Define your style….
I want to capture real and genuine moments and I LOVE LOVE LOVE romantic images and SUNFLARE! 🙂 I love feeling the moment again when I look at an image. My style is Fun and Real and Romantic.
5. When did you notice you had a passion for photography?
I was interested in it all growing up and took some classes in High school but my passion came out when I was living in Mexico doing missions work and going to a bible school for a year after High School. The people and buildings in Mexico are so beautiful and photogenic! I was taking pictures constantly! When I got back home I decided to start pursuing photography as my career!
6. WORKFLOW-Everyone does it differently, tell us how you get ‘er done?
My 1st summer doing weddings I had NO LIFE because of all the editing!! I had no workflow whatsoever!! Luckily since then I have figured out a great workflow that works for me!! Starting with shooting it right IN camera! I use photo mechanic to cull the images (lifesaver!!) I do a few small edits in Lightroom and Some Photoshop edits as well then I use PASS to hand my images over to my clients!
7. What is the scariest thing that ever happened during a photo shoot?
Oh goodness… Maybe I am just lucky but nothing really that scary has ever happened?? Knock on wood 😉
8. Best advice you have been given in your photography career?
Keep God the center of my life/business.
SERVE your clients!
“Be as generous as you can be” not just in money but with knowledge!! Help other photographers!
Prioritize people and relationships over money and fame. Thats what is really important!
Success to me isn’t the car I drive or the house I live in but its that my friends know they can come to me for anything and I will drop what I am doing to help them or even just to listen. Success is caring for strangers and loving and encouraging those around you.
Figure out the WHY of what you are doing! I love photography cause I LOVE people and I love to serve them!!
9. Best advice that you could give someone else that is pursuing a photography career?
Learn your camera! Practice A LOT!! Don’t be afraid to fail or look dumb! Jump in head first! Figure out what success means to YOU and pursue that!
Choose an editing style!! The number one thing I have seen in newer photographers that tells me they are just starting out is inconsistency in their editing style. Go look at images you LOVE make a pin board on pinterest of the images that stand out to you the most. Then notice what kind of editing style they are. Chances are they will mostly be the same style and thats what you are most attracted to! Once you know that, edit all your images consistently!
Reach out to other photogs and learn from them!!
Read blogs and watch creativelive!
Become apart of a community!
10. Bucket list item—we all have one…whats yours?
Oh goodness! I want to Travel A LOT. I would love to get to travel to different countries and take pictures of the different people groups. I have a little book by Steve McCurry of different portraits he has taken around the world and it will always be a big inspiration to my work!
Y’all FAB Fridays are just insane around here with all this talent! I have been so blessed to meet, shoot with, hang out with….all these incredible photographers eager to help serve this photographic community and our clients. We live in a wonderful world us photographers and I wouldn’t change it for anything! Thank you for sharing all that awesomeness Rhema and for those amazing images! You rock my socks girl. Keep up the great work, thanks for this post, and have a killer 2013 wedding season!
