In the weeks prior he said he was anxious. Full of anticipation. Full of fear.
I caught him falling into thought-filled trances as his leg twitched back and forth from pure nerves. I had never seen Michael like this. Completely unglued. I loved it!
It was 6:35 am. It was a warm morning in May. His palms were damp. His head was dripping with sweat. His eyes were filled with tears. All lamaze training went out the door. Instead of counting down the 10 seconds of the push like we practiced for 8 weeks…he yells, “GO, GO, GO, GO!” as if I was a running back sprinting towards a touchdown. And then it happened. I made my amazing husband a father for the first time. A year and a half later–I did it again : P
Becoming a parent is a scary thing at first. You look to your parents as role models. You take what you learned from them and pick the lessons you too, would like to pass on to your own children. And although my father-in-law is an awesome dad and man, my husband is even better.
Countless diapers, sleepless nights, sacrifices at every turn. He is a little kid at heart and always aims to please. My kids adore him and copy his every move. My husband is an amazing Father, but not for what he does…but for who he is. My kids are so incredibly lucky to have a man like him as their hero.
I love you Michael. There is no better Dad in the world for these children than you. We love and appreciate you so very much!
Happy Fathers Day to all the Dad’s and soon to be Dad’s out there. Here is to sweaty palms, quivering knees, and an unconditional love that will surely make it all worth it! : P
