Its rare. But when it happens, I sure as heck do not argue.
Truth be told, I have a love hate relationship with “days off”…but this one day in particular….I had nothing but adoration. It was late this summer, after 3 back to back weddings, 11 shoots in 7 days, and over 154 emails answered that I was in DESPERATE need of some time off. My hubby and I are constantly passing ships in the night in the summer…he has a crazy schedule and so do I and our active kiddos. So needless to say…when we are given the chance to “do nothing”….we are lost. We have no idea what that means…I mean, we dont fight it….but it takes us so long to adjust to the fact we dont have ANYTHING to do that day….that by the time we fully relax….the mini escape has come to and end….quickly drawn back to reality with the ring of a phone….scream of a baby….you name it.
BUT HUNDREDS OF FEET IN THE AIR. Alone. In a 2 person car. IN THE SKY. On a ferris wheel. We enjoyed the silence and distant squeaks of seagulls. For 10 minutes we both sipped our coffee and actually said NOTHING to each other…but it was perfect. We both needed a moment to breath, collect our thoughts, attempt to relax by clearing our brain of all the things we SHOULD be doing instead.
I surprised Mike with this breakfast and he was SO CONFUSED by two important factors:
1. It was a day after a wedding and I was out of bed by 7am (damn 8:15 breakfast reservations…believe me when I say I tried for NOON!)
2. Why was I going TOWARDS the noise and chaos of the boardwalk??!? lol
We were warmly greeted, escorted to our car, the suns golden glow was shinning bright and the sand was covered in speckled light as it trickled through the hotels along the shore. Breakfast was served and the wheel was set in motion. We were off…for 90 minutes of “alone time”. No cell phones. BUT…I didddd bring my camera because I am trying to get better at documenting my OWN life, self and family : P
We only got to snap a few, being secured in HUNDREDs of feet in the air with no where to move around to….but the feeling I felt up there…close to the warmth of the sun, above it all…disconnected from reality….is was a heavenly feeling. Food was great. And of course I loved my company dearly.
I highly recommend it and WE WILL be going back for our one morning of “heaven” each summer : P
