I live in one of the most amazingly supportive communities comprised of many DIFFERENT kinds of photographers. We live at the most southern tip of New Jersey….home to victorian houses, endless beaches, many bird observatories, beach goers, and gorgeous natural parks. OF COURSE there is going to be a sea of photographers. But here is whats great…..EVERYONE has their own niche…own style….own approach and their own experience level.
Our elder generation are all about capturing the rare birds we have in our area….in particular…the snowy owl that has been flying around. They are also used to the way of film portraiture, so its great to see the art they create. The younger generation of photographers divide into categories of children, families, newborns, and weddings. Then there is a whole community of landscape photographers. They capture the most gorgeous sunsets and starry skies.
I had the insane honor of speaking to this vast of a mix of photographers last month at the Photography Club in Cape May. There were photographers of all ages, skill levels, niches, and more. They welcomed me without hesitation and open arms. Me….a young buck…..a wedding photographer! I created a slide show presentation of what I found to be the most general and useful information that in hopes would A) teach them something they didnt know before of B) Inspire them to try something new.
I know for a fact I am so insanely inspired by those of that group that can take the most GORGEOUS sunsets, long exposures, pictures of the night skies….these are all things they do everyday….all the time. This is an art they are passionate about, just as I am about wedding photography. I am not sure if they will go out and start shooting weddings after my speech anytime soon….but hopefully my excitement and passion for what I DO inspires them to rekindle their own….try something new….or in the very least….I hope they left knowing I am there to help and be a friend to anyone that asks.
Thank you Chris Bakley for snapping these photos of me. I had such a wonderful time meeting all of you. Thank you for inviting me into your awesome club to talk about the one thing we all love and have in common….PHOTOGRAPHY!
