Weddings. If you shoot them, you always get to wedding day morning and start to fret about what you are going to wear that day. If you are anything like me, you go for something stretchy, something that breathes, something that is comfortable. I would also be as bold to say that most people start from the bottom up. If you are standing for 8+ hours straight, you definitely need to consider your toes.
Well, consider my toes… considered. When it comes to weddings, I wear one brand and one type of shoes, my pink sparkly TOMS. (Black sparkly one for black tie affairs) These are not only the most comfy of shoes…they are quite the conversation starters. Everyone always compliments me on them and they are huge hit with the flower girls/bridesmaids. Meet my favs:
Next obstacle, what are you going to wear on your upper half? Ok, let me first start off by saying…YOU ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO DRESS THE PART OF A PENGUIN TO LOOK FORMAL. Black pants, white shirt, and black shoes are not the only options. Especially for us lady photogs out there.
Tip: Throw your brand into it! Do you have set business colors that are incorporated in your logo, branding, site? We all know I have a sick obsession with anything pink, sparkly, glittery and fun. So…starting right now, I am going to dress for the brand I have worked so hard to create. I am going to dress to show off my personality, but with formal flare.
Please meet my new WEDDING FORMAL ATTIRE LINEUP: (Dresses, Jackets, Pants and Tops)
Super cute. Super comfy. Super my brand! Now–folks…if you have seen me shoot or you shoot anything like me, I get all over the floor. I lay down left and right and bend in all kinds of ways to get my shot.
“So how the heck are you going to do that in a dress Kait?”
SIMPLE: BIKER SHORTS. They are super stretchy. Breathe easily and cover from your hips to mid thigh/just above your knee. This way…if you happen to bend over, or your dress blows up…you won’t be flashing granny or the mother of the bride in the face with your hinny! lol
If dresses aren’t your thing, go for the pop of color in your pants and pair it with a great loose shirt that will allow you to be and feel totally free on wedding day.
Want to steal my look? You know you do! And thats great…I encourage copy cats in this case because I am sure you will thank me later. Here are the shops for the items above and their corresponding links. Happy shopping and happy shooting y’all!
1. Toms (Shoes)
2. Spool No. 72 (Dresses, tops)
3. TriPp NYC (Pants)
4. Nordstroms (Pink Blazer)
P.S. Do yourself a favor– Be the photographer that takes pride in their appearance on wedding day. Your guests do notice. Dress your part. Dress for the occasion. Keep it simple. Classy. Keep it YOUR style/brand. Don’t be the photographer they confuse with the wait staff. Don’t be the photographer they smirk at as they comment on how underdressed you are. Wow them on every level of the day! : P
