FINNNNALLLLY! I am sooo excited to be able to share these images. I am sure at this point everyone has long since forgotten the sneak peak I provided of my first stylized shoot….BUT it makes me so so happy to finally share it with you annnnd my insanely awesome friends/models for the shoot.
This was one of those ideas that come to you in the solitary moments of a hot shower. It continued through putting on my pjs one cold January night, and even kept me up that night as I laid in bed watching the fan blade go round and round.
As photographers, we see others put together these stylized shoots with the help of nearly 20 vendors. They are all magazine quality…beautiful done, executed and well thought out. Now, I on the other-hand….Mrs. Impatient….Mrs. Impulsive…said ” I am not only going to put together my first stylized shoot ALL alone in 2 weeks….I am also going to turn it into my first WORKSHOP EXPERIENCE! AHHHHH
Yes, pure insanity. I have been made well aware that “kRAZy KaIt” was not just an unfortunate nick name on my high school field hockey team! : )
Anyway…the next morning I was in hunt mode. I wanted something easily….themed…and I landed on “Winter Wonderland/ Baby its Cold Outside/ Aqua, brown and ivory inspired/ crystal dripped deco” WOW!
I first have to say that I do have an obsession with that “baby its cold outside song” and it MAY or may not be the REAL inspiraiton for this shoot considering I listened to it on loop throughout the month of December.
I headed to my FAVORITE thrift store in town called “NORTH END THRIFT”. It is located in the Villas off of Bayshore and run by an incredible team of what I call “treasure hunter and preservers”. Pete and his team have what you would think Ariel from “The Little Mermaid” had in her cave of “human possessions.” Everything is nearly one of a kind, vintage, gorgeous, and PERFECT for a girl like me who LOVES to combine the old with the new.
After scoring a few treasures there, I headed to TJMAXX/Home Goods. I was in desperate need of furniture, pillows, signs and blankets. I ran into Michaels craft store to scower there dollar section and found these crystals and a white garland I was hoping would resemble snow flakes. Though the pieces seemed to all be there, I was falling short of my vision…I couldnt see it anymore. But then, on my last trip to North End to look for some old books, I ran into a HEAVEN send…her name was Eileen. Eileen…a vintage store owner herself on Etsy revealed to me that she also has helped the famous LINDSAY ADLER with some of her props on CREATIVE LIVE! How amazing is that!?!?!?
Eileen helped my vision come to life. We carried arm fulls of things into the parketing lot and set up the actual seen, imagined cold baren trees in the background….not a bait and tackle shop like there was. heheh
The car was packed to the brim and the set was complete. I invited a group of girls to attend my workshop. I actually thought they would laugh in my face when I told them that we would be shooting outside…late january in 20 degree weather. But, much like myself, these girls were pumped. Excited for the challenge and opportunity, and it was perfect. The shoot/workshop was hosted at one my my favorite local vineyards/winery’s in Cape May, NJ. It is called Willow Creek. Their team is quite amazing as well. In the grand ballroom with hard wood floors, and INSANE chandeliers above…we sat facing each other in a living room set up with leather couches, bottles of the vineyards wine, cheese and fruit, custom note pads, aviators for everyone in attendance, oh….and a good old fashioned power point slide filled with information I would only hope didnt put them to sleep. : )
There were some bumps in the road of planning and execution…such as ….everyone nearly passing out from how ridiculously cold it was…the place closing while I still had 4 slides left….the reflector issue….and oh…and there was a whip cream fiasco…but we wont go there! All in all it came together and all I care about is that my guests learned at least ONE new thing and that they were able to take away some stellar images from it. Until next time my friends…and please…LETS RECONVENE when the temperature is no less than 70 degress? Ok great! : )
THE REASSSSON I havent been able to show you this until now is because…well…IT IS GETTING FEATURED THIS SUMMER BY BORROWED AND BLEU! This this was my first stylized shoot, submission and feature…I DIDNT WANT TO JINX anything!!! So I wanted to wait to see if I was allowed to even share. I received the green light and without further ado…I present the “Winter Wonderland Aqua/Brown Inspired E. session edited with entirely VSCO! (I know its a little different for me…but for this shoot/this publication…it was 100% a fit : P )
