Have I mentioned how much I looooove FAB FRIDAY? I seriously love showing off all of these insanely sweet, amazing and talented photographers. Today is a special day in that todays featured photographer is more than just someone I admire…she is a dear, dear friend. Angie and I have had the amazing pleasure of shooting together on multiple occasions and I JUST LOVE HER! She is so fun, such a professional, endless source of knowledge, and a true pleasure to be around.

She did me the insane honor by participating in my Friday blog series and I cant even stand keeping you from meeting her and hearing all about how amazing she is and why I love her to pieces…so without further ado…I present Angelsea Urban : )

  An Interview with Angelsea Urban:

1.Tell us something about your business and how long you have been a professional photographer?

I have dabbled in photography since high school and even took a part time job assisting in a studio when I was about 21-ish. I never intended to make a full time career out of photography until about 2007 when one day I realized that I was smack dab in the middle of it. And that I had reached a point where my part time hobby had reached a point where it could replace my “regular” job. That was a great day.

2. What equipment do you use?

I use all Canon Equipment. Mainly a Canon 5D mark III and my two favorite lenses, a 100mm 2.8L macro and 24-70L. My go to fun lens is a 7mm fisheye but my bag holds oodles of other tools for the trade.

3. Where are you located?

Barnegat, NJ at The Jersey Shore

4. What is your approach to photography?

My approach is calm and relaxed with an eye for creative detail and a trained awareness for those special unanticipated moments. This allows me to create authentic, unique and beautiful situations for clients to be themselves and just enjoy the experience.

Define your style?

My style is inspired by the current experiences in my life and therefore ever changing. I currently consider myself a “lifestyle” photographer, which to me means: authentically showcasing the joy in life.

5. When did you notice you had a passion for photography?
I was just another frustrated artist. I grew up surrounded by musicians, painters, poets, and then married an incredible visual artist. I had it in me to create but couldn’t find my medium. I finally picked up a camera and realized THAT was my creative instrument. That was the medium in which I could express myself with.

6. Most REWARDING part of your job is?

Oh gosh – there are so many. Every giggle from a child I get to hang out with and photograph is a reward because it inspires me to squeeze my kids tight. Every heartfelt loving glance from a couple that I get to photographer is a reward because it inspires me to love my own husband like that. Every newborn baby I get to hold and squish and create art with is an incredible reward because I know I get to cuddle and love on that baby and NOT have to change a diaper! Ha! And every single day that I am not sitting in a cubicle is a reward. That I can use my creative gifts to create a work life that I truly enjoy.

7. What is the scariest thing that ever happened during a photo shoot?
Two Words: Card. Failure. I’m still traumatized.

8. Best advice you have been given in your photography career?

It’s a tie:

“Be yourself; because everyone else is already taken. The only competition you should ever have is with yourself.”

“A good photograph either tells a story or is beautiful. A great photograph does both.”

9. Best advice that you could give someone else that is pursuing a photography career?

In addition to the two above, I would add my own:

“Keep your feet on solid ground, but reach as high as you possibly can until your arms hurt.”

10. Best moment of your photography career to date?

I have certainly had some amazing memorable experiences. I would expect some of my “top moments” to be listed as the ones that would be considered the most news worthy like working with celebrities or photographing the fanciest wedding. But I think the “best moment of my photography career to date” would have to be much more simple. Like the moment during a wedding reception when the floor is shaking and the music is blasting and everyone in the room has the biggest smile on their face, and I look around and realize that someone is paying me to document the feelings they are having right now. To show the beauty of that moment and for it to be captured for generations. Whether it’s in the calm and beauty of family portraits or in the wild and in the crazy of wedding receptions; it is to authentically showcase the joy in their life. That someone choose me to do that for them. What an incredible honor. THAT moment – that realization, is the best.

THANK YOU ANGIE….THIS WAS AMAZING. LIKE SO AMAZING! You rock!!

xoxo,

Kaitlin Noel
