In November of this past year, a HUGE business dream and goal of mine came to fruition: I completed and released my professional promotional video for my photography business. This video is much more than video marketing, it is an inside look into who I am, how I run my business and a look behind the scenes. This video allows future clients to place themselves in the shoes of the featured models in the film. With the freedom to show off my personality, I was able to solidify my brand and put a true face behind the camera. Other businesses may want to use a service like Explainly to showcase their products and services in video format including professional animation.Why does that matter? Does the video really make a difference? If I were to make one, where do I begin? All of these answers and tips are featured below.
Video marketing, by means of a promotional video, is a way you can promote your photography business by not only selling your art but by selling YOURSELF. There are Video Production companies out there that can help you with whatever vision you want for your company and bring that all together to create something unique to you. A promo video also gives you the perfect opportunity to stand out, capture your client’s attention and give them a way to connect with you more than they would just by looking at an online gallery or portfolio of images. In a business where the number of “professional” photographers grows every day, you have to continue to look for innovative ways to grow your business. You have to attract new clients and convince them that you are THEIR photographer. That in essence, their search is over.
When planning my video…I made sure to let my clients know EXACTLY what they were getting into when they book me as their photographer. I am in love with pink and glitter. (So, if they have a huge objection to that, at least I warned them ahead of time : P ). I am detail-oriented. I love to laugh and have fun. I am a walking, talking blooper! But, after all, is said and done, I am a professional they can trust with their most important day. I can pose, give direction, and help the “formal portrait portion” of their day remain fun and the farthest thing from boring. Hopefully, after watching my video, all of this serves to be true. For me, MISSION BEYOND ACCOMPLISHED.
In the beginning of my business, 4 short years ago, I had NO IDEA what I wanted to shoot. What a “brand” was. Or where I even saw KNP going. After having 7 different logos, 3 different websites, 3 different blogs, it was hard to imagine I would ever be at the point I am now. But there are a few things I was told to do along the way that truly helped me begin the whole branding process. First, I made a Pinterest branding board and pinned everything under the sun that I liked. I wrote a hand-written “My Favs” list where I wrote all my favorite things in life. From colors, to fonts, to home décor to flowers and beyond…I pinned it. After a while, I saw a trend. I was a sparkle loving, solely pink wearing, Starbucks drinking, Aviator and TOMS rocking, Disney princess wanna be, crafty, DIY, creative, klutz.
Everyone I ever had the pleasure of working with started to identify me with these elements. If they never met me before a shoot, but saw a girl with sparkles or pink on the beach with a camera, they walked right up to me and said “YOU MUST BE Kaitlin?” Its was perfect. Still is!
Ok, so back to the perks of a promo video and recap time. Here are the benefits of a promo video and why it could be the one element that will jump start your business or take it to another level!
A promo video has numerous marketing and brand benefits, such as:
- Presenting your company in a professional way
- Establishing and solidifying brand recognition
- Confidence and trust booster for your clients
- Attention grabber…a way to stand out. Be remembered.
- Identifier. Lets people know who you are, what you are about. Give them something to connect/relate to.
- Highlights your uniqueness. This is your chance to show why you are better than Photographer X down the street that may shoot 20 more weddings than you a year, but whose personality couldn’t hold a flame to yours.
- Increases a customer base. On average, after the completion of a promo video, the average photographer books 3+ weddings/sessions within the first 2 months!!! ( Trust me…I booked 11 weddings and 6 sessions in 2 months and I literally couldn’t be more grateful and excited about that. Not because its just good business…but because that means I gain that many more friends and photography family members that hopefully will refer me one day as well)
- Increased sales/profits—but that just ties into what I said above. We are all in business to be successful right??
- IT’S FUN! So get out there and shoot! Hit up Christopher Leigh Studios and tell him Glitter girl sent you…poor guy still has pink glitter all over his gear : P But seriously…he is WILDLY talented and super fun!
ADVICE: When your video is done, SHARE IT! Post it on every social media platform you belong to. Facbeook, Twitter, Pinterest, your blog, etc. If you invested that much money, time and planning into your business…you better show it off! : )
