New KNP Blog Series | Cape May Professional Photographer

As I am sure you have noticed….

LOTS ofchanges are happening over at KNP and especially on the blog. Last week I announced a new series called Fab Fridays. You can read all about it here. I LOVE how many of you got excited about that series and I hope this one will be a hit as well. It is my every intention, that even if I can NOT post every single day….EVERY Tuesday and Friday I will be writing and keeping up my new series. These series have been in the works for a while. I wanted to do something special and unique to give back to other photographers/followers. I want this blog to be thought of a positive and enlightening resource for photographers of all skill levels to gravitate towards….depend on. I know there are

so many STUPENDOUS blogs out there that serve as great resources…but I would be sooo excited if this blog can reach out to and help just ONE person!

So, with that said…I’d love to introduce TRY ME! Tuesday’s. Every single day I have photographers emailing me, messaging me and asking for tips, advice, guidance. I can not even tell you how flattered I feel that you trust me and feel comfortable coming to me. A lot of you are not ready to invest in a mentoring session with me just yet, or a full workshop….and that is perfectly okay! I figured this would be a FREE and FUN way to maybe answer those questions you have…because more likely than not…there is someone else out there with the same question as well.

I am going to get super KINDERGARTEN teacher on you when I say this, but I realllly mean it: NO QUESTION IS STUPID!

To be 100% truthful…here are a few questions I asked when I first started, 1 year in, and just yesterday:

1. How do you get the background to look all blurry or fuzzy like? (I am dead serious..I really uttered those words)

2. So if I shoot on mode “P”–that means Im officially a professional right? (Man, RED FACE!)

3. How do I time sync my camera with second and third shooters?

So you see….my questions…even over 5 years….are still frequent. They are still at a level that most would laugh at MEEE for. But I am here to tell you…that the reason I got where I am today is BECAUSE I wasn’t afraid to ask those “stupid” questions. I wasn’t afraid to put it all out there for the sake of knowledge and improving my craft!

So during the week, if you have a question for me…send it on over via Facebook message or email. It can sometime take up to 72 hours to hear back from me…especially in the “on” season. I feel HORRIBLE when I can not get to everyones questions, or give them the full answers they deserve. So…email me with your questions, let me know if you want to remain anonymous, tune in every Tuesday…and it just may be the answer to YOUR question.

Here is to a year of growth, knowledge and paying it forward! Have a great Tuesday, keep the questions coming….AND remember…NO question is stupid!

xoxo,

Kaitlin Noel

  1. Kim Hall says:

You are so generous! You were quick to answer my question about flashes and even gave me a detailed list of what I should buy! But I have so many other questions so this is perfect! I must admit that I don’t even understand your #3 question! serious red face 😉
So, would you mind answering your #3 question??? Also, if time, what do you use to edit your photos? Photoshop, lightroom, do you like to use actions? Thanks for sharing your time and knowledge!
    xoxo,
    Kim

  2. Kaitlin says:

THESE ARE ALL FAB QUESTIONS AND I PLAN ON ANSWERING ALL THOSE IN THE WEEKS TO FOLLOW…THANKS KIM!!!! : P

  3. Ana says:

Hey I’m hoping you can help me because I’ve asked several people and no one can give me a straight answer. I have the 5d mark III, how do I focus??

I just switched from Nikon and am about to throw my canon out the darn window! I can’t get a tack sharp picture if my life depended on it! I know it’s not the iso, shutter speed or aperture because I have those set right and those settings worked fine on my nikon (such as f/ 2.8 or 5.6, ss 1/300- 1/600 for kids, iso depending on light 100-200 outside, 800 plus indoors)

So I tried single shot, al servo, played with focus points and NOTHING! Please help!!!! 🙁

  4. Ana says:

    How do I focus???

I had a Nikon D5000 and upgraded to the Canon 5D Mark III. And I get sharper pictures with my Nikon then the Canon which is crazy to me because that’s such a huge upgrade!

    What have I tried?
Played with iso, shutter speed and aperture. I shoot a lot of kids and keep ss at about 1/300 and 1/600.

Focus points-I think this may be the culprit driving me to the brink of a bald head. 😉

I tried one shot setting, al servo setting.

Tried different focus points. I can never get let’s say everyone in a group in focus. If I focus the points on the eyes in a close up the nose is all that is in focus.

Please how do I get it to be tack sharp like my nikon? I used to be able to zoom in and see every single sliver of color in someone’s eyes and now it’s a blur. 🙁 A family portrait, 1 person or two in focus rest a blur! Also the one session I did I set shutter speed to 1/500 for jumping kids and the picture was a blur. Checked in bridge the settings and it said shutter speed 1/50!!!! No wonder it was blurred, but why did the settings change on me?

I know it must be something with my focus settings but I don’t know what the magic sauce recipe I need is in order to make the magic happen with this camera.

I even tried to return my camera and since I have it a month over the 30 day money back guarantee I can’t. 🙁 please please help!

    • Kaitlin says:

Ana- THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COMMENTING AND LEAVING ME YOUR QUESTIONS…KEEP AN EYE OUT LOVE…YOUR QUESTION MAY BE ANSWERED SOONER THAN YOU THINK : P

  5. EricA says:

Love this and will be patiently waiting the answers to these three question because I always wondered the same thing

    • Kaitlin says:

You mean the three questions I have listed above?? 1,2 and 3? I would be more than happy to answer all three for you if that is what you mean : )

  6. Sarah F says:

First off, yay! I’m so excited to have a place to ask questions. To be honest I have taken a class from a local photographer and then went through a serious depression and truly have forgotten everything. I feel like I have a good eye for composing a shot, but I want off of auto mode. I have had my camera for several years , it’s a Nikon d40. I also have a flash and 3 different lens. I hope to upgrade my Nikon some day, but I need to better my skill. So pretend I’m just starting, what do I do? How do I get off auto?

    Thank you!
    Sarah F

    • Kaitlin says:
