At the time last year I was at the salon….one set of hands on my nails. One on my toes. And one on my hair. Knees rattlings together, the straw in my coffee drink was chewed to hell and if my nails weren’t being worked on…I would have been biting them off!
July 25, 2009 was the day I was getting married. Months of planning coming together in one day. My friends and family had flown into town. The hall for the reception was set up. All we needed were the words “I do” and the party was ready to be started.
I arrived early to the beach overlooking the lighthouse in Cape May. Mike was late. I sat in the hot car, middle of the day in July, with the air conditioning blowing, arms raised and my bridesmaids funneling the air to my arm pits and up my dress. Sad, but true. IT WAS A HOT ONE!
I see Mike running up to the alter (well it was on the beach…so lets call it the “Unity in the Sand” table) sliding his flip flops on, buttoning his shirt and pants and buckling the last notch on his belt. “Thats my future hubby” I thought to myself. “Cant even be on time for his own wedding.” (P.S. The lateness…it hasn’t changed at all. He is perpetually late for life! lol)
Our marriage is fun. Funny. Special. Never a dull moment. With two kids…we constantly find ourselves looking at each other with one kid in each of of arms….and having a full on conversation with just our eyes. (Mostly because we can’t talk over the temper tantrums that our 1 and 3 year old are famous for themselves—you parents out there feel me on this)
But one day a year its allll about us. We get away for a night and actually get to speak to each other. Flirt. Have some fun.
I don’t have to change his pants. I don’t have to cut up his food or watch spongebob with him until he falls asleep. (Instead its usually American Pickers…lol) Regardless….our anniversary is all ours and it is so nice to have time with the man that stole my heart, a man that blessed me with the 2 best and MOST loud children ever made, and a man that made me come to the greatest realization I have ever had: Michael makes me a better person! He inspires me to be patient and kind. He makes me the best Kaitlin I can be. So this anniversary in particular, I realize now more than ever…Michael saves me each and every day. He is my angel. My inspiration. He is my better and more patient half. Michael…YOU are my best friend. I love you! Happy Anniversary!
<3 Kaitlin
